BFS Heading to the DL

Here's my latest SJ-R column. I think you have to be registered with the site to access it.

This will probably be my last post until after the Fourth. The Blogging Oversight Committee (BOC) has ruled that I must attend a week of sensitivity training for allowing the comments' section to degenerate into a house of hurtful name-calling.

Not that I'm really needed here. The post that got me into trouble with the BOC has taken on a life of its own. It's set a BFS record for most comments to a single post AND most insults leveled at the alternative press. I didn't really plan to stir up so much animosity, but there have been some interesting observations and a spirited defense.

With any luck, I'll return next week as a better blogger, and an even better human being.

Thanks, Dan. I think I'll join you in signing off. This thing is like talk radio only worse. And that's something i never thought i'd say in this town.

Gosh, we are going to miss you.

Thinking of Dusty reminds me of a scene from Kramer vs. Kramer.

Justin Henry tells his father, Dustin Hoffman, that he hates him. Hoffman fires right back, "I hate you right back you little shit".

what the heck does that mean?

Dusty,

If I were you, I'd probably keep my mouth shut, too. From your comments on this site, you don't sound like a very happy person, or a very good listener, and certainly not a very good diplomat. When folks question your work or raise legitimate questions, you lash out in quite violent and insulting ways, as if there's no chance in the world that you might have done something that could've been done better or differently. I don't mean this to be insulting, but after reading your comments, I have less respect for you as a journalist. You've written some very good things, but you've also written some things that aren't so good. Like it or not, you have an audience that, in today's day and age, has the ability to respond and talk back. You would do well to get a skin, accept that and engage people instead of just circle the wagons and treat all slings and arrows as if they're outrageous.

I do find it quite ammusing that two individuals who give no credit to anonymous comments and may or may not check this blog for comments...seem to be hinging on every last one posted the last couple of days trying to defend their actions! Keep up the great un-biased work IT!

BTW, the unicorn or bigfoot story would be a good one!
